TECHWELL EXPANDS MULTI-PURPOSE VIDEO DECODER FAMILY DEMONSTRATING LOW COST, HIGH QUALITY SOLUTIONS
SAN JOSE, Calif. (January 6, 2005)- Techwell, Inc. a leading designer of mixed signal semiconductor solutions, today announced the availability of the TW9906 and TW9909 multi-purpose 2D video decoders with volume production commencing in March. This expansion of Techwell's successful TW9900 general-purpose chip family represents the highest value in terms of high quality video decoders on the market today. Utilizing image improvement features, the new decoders target high-end multimedia applications such as advanced digital TV, LCD monitor, DVD recorder, and PC applications.
"The TW9906 and TW9909 are the latest in Techwells' portfolio of multi-purpose video decoders that have been developed to solve the growing demand for improved image quality on high-resolution displays in LCD, plasmas TVs and DVD recorders at a cost-effective
price," says Hiro Kozato, CEO of Techwell. "High performance and value are the clear requirements from our customer base and as the market continues to grow we are pleased to expand our TW9900 family with design refinements to meet the challenges of analog-to-digital
technology."
Both the TW9906 and TW9909 use the mixed-signal 2.5V/3.3V CMOS technology to provide a low-power integrated solution. While the TW9906 analog front-end is equipped with three separate analog channels that enable it to accept all three possible analog video signal standards: composite, S-video or YcbCr component video; the TW9909 offers six. Allowing for easy migration, the TW9909 is pin to pin compatible with the TW9906. It targets the European market by supporting up to two SCART RGB inputs with
FB.
The advanced TW9900 family of video decoders addresses the needs of value, mainstream, and premium market demands by translating analog video signals from sources such as
NTSC, PAL and SECAM into all standard digital formats. In addition, the integrated proprietary 4H comb filter for chroma and luma separation helps to achieve high video quality. The image enhancement includes horizontal and vertical peaking, CTI and BCS control.
Pricing and Availability
Reinforcing its commitment to high-end performance devices at remarkable values, the TW9906 and the TW9909 are priced aggressively in quantities of 10k. Sampling has begun today with volume production commencing in March 2005. Both devices are manufactured on a .25 micron process at
TSMC, Taiwan utilizing a 80 pin TQPF package.
