Techwell Unveils Complete End-to-End Penta-Plex DVR Solution

4-Channel embedded DVR capable of performing HDD storage, playback, spot monitor, networking and USB back-up simultaneously

SAN JOSE, Calif. (March 27, 2007) - Techwell, Inc. (Nasdaq:TWLL), a leading designer of mixed signal video semiconductor solutions for the security surveillance, automotive, and consumer electronics markets, today announced a complete end-to-end 4 channel DVR solution with Penta-Plex capability. Based on the TW2700 4 Channel MJPEG CODEC and the TW2815 4-in-1 NTSC/PAL video decoder with audio ADCs and audio mux, the Penta-Plex DVR solution is a cost-effective, feature-rich turnkey DVR for retail and commercial surveillance customers. This fully optimized solution features the capability to store, playback, monitor, network, and back up at the same time.

"Techwell's customers are demanding more end-to-end solutions including decoding, multiplexing, compression, networking and display technology. Combining the TW2815 and the TW2700 controller enables a two-chip solution versus up to 11 separate chips to perform the same functions - four NTSC/PAL video decoders, four audio A/D converters, one multiplexer, one MJPEG CODEC, and one NTSC/PAL encoder," said David Nam, VP Sales and Marketing for Techwell, Inc. "We are very excited to provide turn key solutions based on our chips that can address customer's needs in the security surveillance market. Our high level of support, free schematics, source code and application drivers enable customers a cost-effective and time critical solution."

TW2700 4-Channel MJPEG CODEC with integrated Mux
The TW2700 is a real-time 4-channel video compression controller for security applications that can compress and decompress 4 full-size video data streams simultaneously. As Techwell's first chip in the CODEC segment of the DVR application, this RISC-based controller can be used with the TW2815 to provide a complete DVR solution. Features include four ITU-R BT.656 compatible video input ports; an independent compression engine for each channel with a proprietary algorithm; support for Triplex operations, simultaneous recording, playback and network connection; and support for up to sixteen channels through cascade mode.

TW2815 4-in-1 video decoder with audio ADC and audio Mux
The TW2815 and TW2816 include four integrated analog anti-aliasing filters, 10-bit CMOS ADCs, and high-performance adaptive 4H comb filters for all NTSC/PAL standards. Both ICs provide simultaneous four channel Full D1 and CIF time-multiplexed outputs with 54MHz, and both operate at an ultra low level of power (typically 480-500 mW). In addition, the TW2815 offers four integrated audio ADCs, an audio DAC, multi-channel audio mixed analog output, and support for a standard I2S interface for record output and playback input.
