Sanyo Selects Techwell’s Highly Integrated LCD Controller Enabling Automotive Infotainment Systems in Production with Multiple Tier 1 Japanese Car Manufacturers
Techwell’s high-performance TW8816 IC makes it much easier for OEMs to implement infotainment architectures enabling new market designs for High-end automotive infotainment display systems
SAN JOSE, California (May 13, 2009) - Techwell, Inc. (Nasdaq:TWLL), ), a leading designer of mixed signal video semiconductor solutions for the security surveillance, automotive, and consumer electronics markets, today announced Sanyo Consumer Electronics Co., Ltd, a subsidiary of SANYO Electric Co., Ltd. has cooperated with Techwell to help develop its next generation automotive infotainment systems. Featured in both OEM and aftermarket tier 1 Japanese car manufacturers, Techwell's TW8816 is a highly integrated LCD controller with on-chip MCU & CCFL controller for automotive display applications. Techwell began mass production shipping to Sanyo in Q1 2008 and will commence mass production for 2009 models in April 2009.
Automotive consumers continue to demand enhanced infotainment platforms that integrate data communications, location services, and video entertainment into rear-seat entertainment, navigation, and car TV displays. The TW8816 is a highly integrated mutli-purpose LCD display solution with a high quality NTSC/PAL/SECAM 2D video decoder and a 2D De-interlacer/Scaler supporting digital and analog panels which addresses high-performance processing requirements of automotive entertainment systems. To reduce BOM cost, TW8816 integrates an 8-bit MCU and a CCFL controller. Through multiple input ports, TW8816 can directly display video and graphic content from a variety of devices including TV Tuners, DVD players, back-up cameras, DTV/DMB receivers and navigation/GPS receivers.
